Principal’s Message

It is with great joy and excitement that I return to the St Michael’s Lane Cove community as Principal in 2025. This community holds a special place in my heart, having previously served as Assistant Principal from 2014 to 2017. I am deeply honoured to have the opportunity to lead our school into this next chapter, building on its rich traditions and strong sense of community.

At St Michael’s, we are united by our school’s motto of Love and Loyalty. We take great pride in fostering a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child and family feels valued and supported. Our school is more than just a place of learning—it is a community united in our purpose to serve our students. Together with our dedicated staff, I am committed to nurturing the wellbeing of every child. We know that happy students are ready to learn, and we are determined to provide the best possible opportunities for each child to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

I understand the immense trust you place in us when you choose St Michael’s for your child’s education. It is a responsibility we hold with the utmost care and respect, and I believe that a strong partnership between school and families is essential for creating the best outcomes for our students.

Our school vision, “Connecting learning to make a difference in our global world,” guides everything we do. Through our core values of Self-Efficacy, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Creativity, we strive to empower our students to become confident, compassionate, and capable individuals who will make a positive impact on the world.

I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our vibrant school community. If you would like to visit or take a tour, please don’t hesitate to contact our school office—we would love to welcome you in person!

StMichaelsCatholicPrimarySchoolLaneCove_AboutUs_OurhistoryHistory
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Lane Cove commenced in 1919 as a church-school, but it wasn’t until the actual parish of St Michael’s Longueville was formed in 1922 that the Sisters of Mercy began teaching at St Michael’s. The Parish Priest, Fr Hugh McGuire, arranged for the Sisters of Mercy (North Sydney Congregation) to run the school. The Sisters of Mercy had staffed St Michael’s up until 1985, when they ended their leadership of the school. The first lay Principal was Mrs Caroline Leuenberger.

In 2011, through Federal Government funding, a large multi-purpose centre was built and named in honour of Monsignor Hugh McGuire. A leadlight window from the original St Michael’s Church is featured prominently outside this building.

In 2019, St Michael’s has an enrolment of approximately 530 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Charism
The Mercy charism is alive and well at St Michael’s. We listen to our hearts, are ready to be open and responsive by being aware of others and developing empathy. It begins with our heart and leads us to action and justice.

As Catherine McAuley called on the Sisters of Mercy, we are called to not just talk about love and compassion, but to do something about helping other people in need. This is the Mercy charism in action.

Our MissionVision
Our vision and mission engage students, families and staff in the faith life and positive learning culture of the school.

Mission
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Lane Cove is built on an authentic faith and learning community who value:

  • Love of God educating students in the rich traditions of the Catholic faith and the charism of the Sisters of Mercy, assisting them to respond to the message of Jesus in their lives.
  • Love of Others valuing and respecting all members of the community and challenging them to do what Jesus would do.
  • Love of Learning providing a dynamic student-centred education, and inspiring children to become enthusiastic life-long learners as members of a broader global community.

Fr Sam, our Parish Priest, is a well-known figure at St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Lane Cove. He prepares our classes for Reconciliation, involves students in parish Masses, upskills students to be altar servers, contributes to the implementation of the Religious Education syllabus and is a prominent figure at important school events.

St Michael’s Parish church is located diagonally across the road from the school. The St Michael’s Parish website provides information on Mass times and opportunities to connect further with the parish community.
